Today I continue the story of the small little hole in the wall bathroom. This tiny space has a big responsibility, it is one of two bathrooms for our family of 5. Which means this half bath gets plenty of use!
Earlier I shared with you how I took the tile backsplash and updated it with a clean coat of paint, giving it a matte white finish. It brought the tile from a contemporary finish to the modern farmhouse look I am going for. But today’s DIY is all about the walls.
The walls and ceiling were originally a light blue color with light wood trim. So the first step was to paint all of the walls and trim a white color. (The same white color as my living room. Which you can read about over here.)
After the walls received two coats of paint I got to work on the accent wall.
I wanted to take the long and low wall in the bathroom and give it the wow-factor. The first choice was wallpaper, but I couldn’t seem to make up my mind on a pattern. So then I decided to look at stencil options like my painted front porch floor. After looking through options Cutting Edge Stencils sent me this small diamond pattern stencil to use in our space, and it was definitely the perfect modern touch for the wall.
To complete this pattern I followed the stencil instructions over on this page.
I made a mistake when laying the stencil down. The two corner diamonds are meant to overlap. I forgot. (ugh!) But when I finished the wall I went back through and filled in the open spaces with a portion of the stencil.
With the walls ready, the tile painted and a couple other small jobs done, I am down to one last painting project in this space. And then it will be time for the hole-in-the-wall-bathroom reveal. 😉 Because hey, even a hole in the wall deserves some love.

Super cute! Looks like modern wall paper. It’s taken me two large stenciled wall projects to finally figure out how to properly stencil! LOL. Visiting from Mini Linky Party.
