I need to get this off of my chest.
December, I failed you.
And if I’m going to continue to be honest I’m not even sure that I’m sorry about it.
December was supposed to be all hot cocoa and marshmallows. Presents would be purchased by the 5th and wrapped by the 10th. There would be caroling. Handmade presents. And tromping through the snow to pick out the tree. Loud sing-alongs in the car. Decking the halls. Handwriting notes in each of the Christmas cards that would certainly be mailed out early in the month.
In reality, December turned out to be a lot of frozen pizza and fighting over who got the last of the milk because I forgot to pick it up again. There were disagreements over which Christmas song was played first. and the UPS man handled the gifts more than I did. Instead of cutting down a tree I called the greenhouse and said we were coming for whatever was left, please don’t close until we’re done. And the cards got out in the mail before Christmas Day so I can check that off.
As for decking the halls, well I got a start. There are a few totes that were never opened, no outdoor lights or front porch displays. But this year it is good enough. I am letting all of those undone jobs go. It is December 22nd and I am no longer going to think about what didn’t get done. At this point in the game, I say mission accomplished and I am enjoying the decorating that is finished. Now to get to those gifts that still are not wrapped.
