Aren’t these little animal cake toppers adorable? I knew I wanted some kind of woodland touch for the cupcakes at our big camping themed birthday bash, but I didn’t want it too look like a circus had exploded on my table. So I grabbed a couple of plastic animals and created my own DIY animal cake toppers.
To create your own animal cake toppers you will need:
spray paint (I used gold)
bamboo skewers
hot glue gun
drill and small drill bit (optional)
First step will be spray painting your plastic animals. Give it a good coat on all sides and allow to dry completely.
Next you will want to hot glue the flat end of the bamboo skewer to the base of the animal. Make sure you hold it in place for 30 seconds to allow it to set. Allow them to dry completely.
note: Some plastic animals are heavier than others. If that’s the case I would recommend drilling a tiny hole in the bottom of the animal. Then put hot glue on the top of the bamboo skewer and put it into the hole. This will make your animal pick more secure. Heavier animals may just fall off the top of the bamboo skewer, even after the glue has dried.
What are your thoughts? Something you would create for your own birthday party? I thought it brought just the right amount of whimsy to the cupcake display, without being too over the top!

I love them! But then again, I love almost anything that involves gold spray paint 😉
