Our farmhouse laundry room is well on it’s way to a complete overhaul. We shared last week about the plans to transform the space into a room with storage that works for a family of six, room for loads of laundry, and timeless farmhouse design. You can see the before photos and our mood board in the first post.
The first major tasks to be tackled in the laundry room reno is demolition, repair, and tiling the floor. The demolition tasks included:
- pulling out the old cabinets above the washer and dryer and building up the wall.
- opening up the closet wall
- pulling up the laminate flooring
The cabinet came out above the washer and dryer and the wall was completed up to the ceiling.
Demo also included knocking down the wall that was closing off the closet.
After the demo was completed and walls were patched we moved on to laying the tile. This included pulling up the laminate, putting down the subfloor, and then laying the tile.
We used this tile from Floor & Decor. I consider it to be timeless with its white color and hexagon shape but has a modern twist thanks to it’s updated take on a hexagon and the charcoal grout.
I considered a variety of white tiles before settling on this one, and I pulled all of the white tiles I considered and put them in here for you to browse. As much as I love the pattern tile trend, I know it is a trend that will wear out, and when the trend has passed I will be left with a bossy patterned floor. So simple and white seemed like the best choice for the space.
Up next in our reno is creating a custom laundry table, starting production on the custom cabinetry, and deciding the paint colors for the cabinets, walls and trim. All that is coming in our next update! In the meantime, you can check out our IG stories for behind the scenes pictures and videos.
