Last week I shared with you the final results from the One Room Challenge, and how our mudroom was updated to reflect our modern farmhouse style. Part of that makeover involved our “front door”. Which is really like the second front door on your way into the house. The door was given a beautiful green coat of paint, and the wreath was replaced with a whimsical and light looking eucalyptus hoop wreath.
Creating the wreath was fairly quick and easy, the perfect DIY project for a low-key rainy day. (Like we are having here!) If you want to replicate the hoop wreath I’ve included my supplies and the easy directions below.
supplies
- embroidery hoop (I pick up old hoops from garage sales in a variety of shapes and sizes.)
- floral wire
- wire cutters
- eucalyptus or other greenery
- white flowers
- hot glue gun & glue
step one
Determine how you want the hoop to hang and begin in the bottom left (your left) corner of the wreath. Cut eucalyptus (or whatever greenery you are using) into short segments. Mine are approximately 4-6 inches long. Secure the greenery to the bottom left corner with a piece of floral wire approximately 10-12 inches long, that you have cut with wire cutters.
Wrap the floral wire tightly around the end of the eucalyptus and the hoop. Add layers of the greenery in the same location to help fill the bottom of the hoop. The greenery should all be going in the same direction. You want to think of the greenery all branching out from the same spot in the bottom left corner.
step two
After you have added the greenery along the bottom of the hoop you can begin to add the greenery going along the left-hand side. Once again think of the greenery as sprouting out from the bottom left corner, up and along the left side. Fill in the left side with greenery, securing in place with floral wire.
step three
After you have filled the bottom and left side with greenery it is time to add the white flowers. Concentrate on adding the flowers to the spot in the lower left corner, the place where all of the greenery begins. This hoop is a smaller size and so I went with three flowers.
The hoop I am working with is a smaller size and so I used three flowers. Trim the flowers down so that they have a small wire stem. Then wrap the wire around the flower stem and the hoop to tie them together. Repeat for all flowers.
step four
If the wire you used does not seem to be holding thing securely into place you can add a small amount of hot glue to the branches.
I’d love to know what you think of these whimsical and easy wreaths! Have other favorite dried flowers that you’d like to use? Tell me what you would put on your hoop wreath in the comments.
Happy creating friends, xo

Such a clever idea! An embroidery hoop is a perfect wreath form. I like the large, oval one that you have hanging on your door. Eucalyptus is always in season, too.

This is a gorgeous wreath! I love that you chose to swag the eucalyptus on the hoop instead of covering the entire thing. It looks fabulous! Thanks for the fantastic tutorial!

This project is very quaint and pretty. Its such a nice simple wreath. Using a embroidery hoop is a good idea, you often see them at thrift stores and its much cheaper than a form. Thank you for the tips.
