Shopping for two new nightstands has turned into a full blown drama at our house. Honestly friends, it has been way too complicated! As in two full months, and a huge box being sent back on UPS, kind of drama. Picking out a nightstand shouldn't really be so complicated should it? So I decided to go back to basics. Looking at design styles and deciding which style suits our bedroom the best and going from there. I think the end of our bedroom update may be in sight!
Since I have done so much digging online for nightstands I decided to share my top picks for 6 different design styles, and a quick summary of each style.
1. Shabby Chic Nightstand. Think white slipcovers, painted and distressed furniture. Vintage pieces and bright and airy spaces.
2. Modern Nightstand. Modern evokes images of minimal decoration, clean lines, neutrals and geometric shapes.
3. Art Deco Nightstand. This style usually involves geometric and round shapes, chrome and a lot of mirrored surfaces.
4. Country Nightstand. Heavy and dark rustic woods, some painted furniture, white paneling, and soft florals.
5. Contemporary Nightstand. Contemporary furniture will involve sleek lines, neutrals with pops of bold colors.
6. Traditional Nightstand. This style usually reflects the 18th and 19th century French and British styles, with a mix of florals, solids, stripes and plaids.
And if you look at these six styles and think you don't fit just one, you aren't alone! Personal design styles often evolve over time and many people don't fit in just one category! These resources may help you figure out what is your unique design style:
- You can view 18 different design styles and see definitions from HGTV at this photo gallery.
- And if you are up for some fun there is also a short quiz that helps you define your design style!
If you take the quiz share your results in the comments section below. And I would love to know which of the 6 nightstands is your favorite!
