Today I am joining the people at Hometalk.com and CountryLiving.com for a Home For Christmas blog hop. In this blog hop DIY bloggers are sharing their great projects for your home or garden with a Christmas theme! Make sure you stay all the way till the end to see the link ups. My project is about how I took an old door and updated it with some hand lettering to create a Merry & Bright Christmas Door.
Let’s get started with the quick steps to create this Merry & Bright Christmas sign!
I started off with an old pantry door that was from a kitchen being remodeled. I was already using it on my front porch for our fall decor, so I decided to make a quick update with hand lettering for the Christmas season.
To replicate this look you will need:
- a door, window, or old piece of wood
- lettering template – Type your own phrase in a word document or print off mine!
- white chalk
- painters tape
- ball point pen
- acrylic paint
- small paintbrush
- aerosol spray sealer
First you will want to add a heavy layer of chalk to the backside of the Merry & Bright printout. Then lay it, chalk side down, on the door. Keep it in place with a small piece of paint tape.
Using the ball point pen trace the letters, applying heavy pressure. The chalk will transfer to the surface below.
After you have finished tracing you can then take the acrylic paint and paintbrush and paint on the letters.
Allow to dry and then spray with a coat of a sealer to make sure it will stand up to the outdoor elements.
Once the sealer has dried you are ready to display your beautiful hand lettering anywhere in your home. Next to the Christmas tree perhaps? Or in the entrance way? I love having mine by the front door!
