Today I have something beautiful, vintage, worn and torn to share with you. Sound perfect, doesn’t it? I have been in the process of changing our playroom into my office, and along one wall I recently hung a beautiful map of the United States from 1927. It shows territories, the Louisiana purchase and more! Maps and globes have always intrigued me, and I love to have them on display around our home. {Maybe my kids will take a look at them out of their own curiosity, and learn something new!}
If you want to find a map for your home take time to search vintage shops, Goodwill and Craigslist. This map came from an auction! Maps also give you the chance to fill large spaces on your walls for a low price. Who doesn’t love one of a kind “art” for their home at a bargain price? Make sure you check out this post where I share how to create your own large scale art for your home.
The one concern I had with this map was that the edges were tearing off of the fabric backing, and I didn’t want to see them continue to rip off. To fix the edges I used this tape, which does not require any heat to seal, and is made for working with fabrics. In just about 30 minutes I had repaired all of the edges of the map, and it is now ready for my curious children!
To repair the edge of your map cut a portion of the tape to fit the space needed.
Place the sticky side down on the back piece of fabric, making sure it is smooth and flat.
Slowly peel of the front paper, being careful not to pull the tape off the fabric.
Smooth out the paper layer of the map and press it down on top of the tape. There was even a portion of the map that had ripped off completely and I was able to reapply the entire piece!
I am so excited about this beautiful map hanging on my walls, I wish each one of you could come over and take a few minutes to look at it with me.
Have a beautiful day,
