Whatever it is, now is the time to look at your yearly budget and decide where you will spend money on creating a home that makes you want to stay home.
And if you are ready to make some updates, but aren’t sure where to start we have you covered! Trends on Pinterest, editors of magazines, and interior designers for major cities all give us insight into where we are headed this year. And to make things easier on you I rounded up a few predictions from a variety of sources to share with you. Ready to take a peek into what many are forecasting to be a colorful and luxurious year of design?
(Side note: I’m pulling some inspiration from “everyday shops” like Target and Amazon to show you where you can find decor pieces that fit within these trends. Some of the items listed are affiliate links. That means I can make a commission on a sale, but with no added cost to you. It helps me keep this website up and running.)
1. Mix The Old With The New

Elle Decor has a long list of what they think will be out and in this year. My favorite from their list (which has also been my own personal design mantra) is the idea of layering the old with the new. People are consistently trying to be more conscious of their design choices, and investing in things with quality, and they are also searching for unique one-of-a-kind items that we can often find in antique and vintage shops.

2. Floating Vanities To Free Up Floor Space

In their list of 8 trends to watch for in 2020, Southern Living anticipates that there will be a rise in floating vanities in the bathroom, including double sink vanities. They bring in the modern feeling and free up visual space giving you a feeling of more square feet in a tiny bathroom. If you are looking at a bathroom remodel this may be a trend to consider!
3. Keep It Black & White
Image from Arent & Pyke
While many designers are calling for more color and less white and grey there is still a big demand for the black and white color scheme, which is noted in the list from Collected Interiors. You see it everywhere with home exteriors and you will likely continue to see it with interiors, like this stunning black and white kitchen. It is a good transition from the all-white look, to lots of color. It offers high contrast, but still a lot of white for those who love the light and airy white look.

4. Bold Colored Cabinets

Maybe you are one of the homeowners who is over the all-white kitchens. If so, you will love this trend prediction from Good Housekeeping. While I am seeing more and more interest in subtle colors and wood tones for cabinets, this bold prediction is embracing the deep colors on cabinets. It works well with the white walls, and serves a big dose of visual interest (similar to the current rise wallpaper popularity!)
5. Rich Bohemian

This one also flows nicely with the all-white trend. A clean look, with subtle patterns and a dose of finishes found in nature, round out this prediction listed on House Beautiful. And friends, I AM HERE FOR THIS ONE. But if you follow me on any of my social channels that’s probably not a surprise. I love all things rattan, wicker, and light wood tones. It brings a sense of warmth and depth to the space. But I also love it in doses sprinkled here and there, which is exactly what this Rich Bohemian vibe is all about.
