I speak from experience on this one. If you are from the “city” and moving to the country then let me tell you one skill you will want: the ability to quickly know which direction is north, south, east and west.
I am directionally challenged. Thankfully vehicles today have a compass! And also, thankfully, I live a few miles from the Mississippi and I know that is east of me. {Correct? yes… east. I just have to picture the map in my head to confirm that it is east.} Then I picture the west to east, and then which way is north and south. And then I am ready to tell you which direction to go. It isn’t the fastest process.
Farmers seem to have a compass built in. Really not fair. During field work season I often hear things like, “Meet me at the northeast corner of the field”. Yeah. Be right there.
Or a personal favorite, when I am lost on a dirt road and call my husband for help. In my mind I’m thinking, do I go right or left? But his internal farmer compass says things like:
“Are you north or south of that house?”
“Go east on the road.”
And so, if you are going to live in the country, and don’t have the gift of the internal compass, get a real one. You will be thankful for it at some point. Promise. 🙂
Have a blessed day,

Thank you for this because I was absolutely certain I was the only one. I give directions by landmarks, it’s legit.
