My husband is great at remembering date nights! Unfortunately during field work season we only get a date night if it is raining and there isn’t livestock work to catch up. {True story: This past week we went out on a date when it was raining, and my husband was literally falling asleep at the table from all of his late nights/early mornings in the field. Needless to say we cut that date short and came home!} There are a few things about date nights living in the country that are different from city date nights.
A date night is not trying out new restaurants.
A date night is going to the same one or two restaurants that are within 30 minutes of you, but having your booth, and knowing the menu from heart.
A date night is not a stroll downtown for people watching.
A date night is a drive and a walk down a block, or two.
A date night is not going to a museum or theatre.
A date night is going to your local opera house when there is a show in town. (Yes we have one! Yes it’s awesome! No… I still have not convinced my husband to visit. But it could happen…)
A date night is not an impromptu stroll through the mall.
A date night is planning ahead with the babysitter so you can drive the hour to the mall and the hour back.
A date night is not going to a concert together.
A date night can be turned into a weekend to travel to a concert. {bonus!}
A date night is not going to a college or pro sporting event.
A date night is going to the local high school events or even better, playing a sport together.
A date night is not anything like it may be in the city.
But a date night can still be wonderful. It can still be creative. And most importantly it can still happen. I hope you will find ways to be creative and date, even after you are married!

I grew up on a farm, but now I live in a small city. The convenience is nice, but I miss the solitude and wide open. 🙂

Isn’t it amazing how different they can be? I honestly never even thought the change would be so different!

What a sweet husband you have! I can remember working 50+ hours at an animal shelter as the care manager, and falling asleep mid-conversation with my husband. He was Not Amused. I’m glad you’re understanding.
Thank you for sharing about your date nights!

It happens! 🙂 Actually last night it was my turn. He was trying to talk to me when he finally came in and I was basically sleeping with my eyes half open on the couch. 🙂 It’s just part of the season of our life!
