There are so many aspects of country life that differs from city living, and a lot of it revolves around attitudes and behaviors. One of my favorite changes is the level of patriotism I see in the country. There are so many flags flying, and every small towns has a memorial for those who have served. It really seems like there is a greater sense of priority placed on loyalty to country.
My absolute favorite show of patriotism is our 4th of July parade. Our small town has the biggest event around for the 4th. Nearby small towns plan their parades for different times/days because they all come to our parade. There is a large parade, complete with area vets marching, firemen taking donations and the local radio station announcing. After the parade the city park is filled with vendors for all kinds of food and fun. The local drill team performs, there is a water fight hosted by the fire department, and a kiddie tractor pull. Seriously, if you ever want to see what a 4th of July celebration should look like plan a trip to northeast Iowa. Here are a few pictures from this years celebration.
You know you want to celebrate the fourth small town style.
