When I was younger and thought about getting married, and starting a family, I had all sorts of dreams about the number of kids I would have, what they would look like, and what they would love to do. All of these thoughts fit perfectly into my city girl mindset. With my two girls I wasn’t too far off. Nothing too overly surprising. But the boy is a different story.
I had pictured all of these superheroes, legos and cars. And I was right, he loves all of those things. But what I failed to think of was the little farmer he would be by the ripe old age of 25 months. He is enamored with the farm.
Here are some of the ways my little man is a farmer in-training:
Corn. “Mom, it corn! Kay Kay, Corn! Look! Corn!” Who knew rows of corn would be so overly exciting? But this kid loves the corn.
Tractor. Or as JoJo calls it, “hop-em”. Usually I can get what his words mean, or why he says it a certain way. But this one is beyond me. Any ideas why he says it this way? I don’t remember ever telling him about a hopper, but maybe he heard about them somewhere else? Who knows. Either way, this kid is obsessed with tractors. Plays with them. Yells about them. Nothing distracts him better than a tractor.
Rides. I cannot get him to sit still for more than 10 seconds. Even in the car he is hollering, or wanting to play. But put him in the tractor with Dad, or the combine with Grandpa, and he can magically sit for up to two hours?? First of all, that is not fair. Secondly, it is rows of corn people. Two hours? It’s not like he can really carry on a conversation to entertain himself that long. And there certainly isn’t any getting down and walking around in the tractor, or watching cartoons. I don’t get it. But it sure does love those rides. {And it also provides a little break for mama.}
Boots. This kid also loves his work boots. A bright yellow pair that were handed down from some friends. He can put them on himself and he is sure he is going outside to “ride”. Or, equally exciting, put a scoop of food out for the cats. If I’m running the girls up to the bus I had better put that pair of yellow boots on his tiny feet or I will have to hear all about them for the solid 12 minutes it takes me to drive up and back.
Animals. Also known as “am-ils”. If it is not a kitty or a horsey then they are just animals. Mostly this refers to cows, but either way all animals evoke excitement from this mini-farmer.
So, if you are city girl moving to the country be prepare yourself. You little boys just may turn into farmers.
Have a blessed day,

Eli (my almost 4 year old) has the same love for all kinds of farm equipment. However, he does not have the opportunity to ride in them! My dad stops at truck stops and picks up the magazines that have the tractors/combines/etc. listed for sale (sorry, not sure what it is called) and Eli will look through those for hours! He knows most of the names for the equipment and will correct anyone who calls something by an incorrect name. He is also the sMe way with all kinds of construction equipment!
