There is just something about the dollar spot at Target that seems to suck me right in. All those bins full of cute little items for the current season and I just want them all. Who doesn’t need 12 new pens in cute floral patterns? For the most part I do better now at saying no, and I make sure that I only put dollar spot items into my cart that I know I will use or have a place for. The other day I found these perfect cake stands and new that it would be fabulous in our home for spring. I stuck one in my cart and started thinking about just what I could do to give it a small upgrade.

To paint your own cake stand you will need:
Craft paint for ceramics (I used this brand)
Small mouth canning lid
Begin by placing the small canning lid on the top of the cake stand, and trace along the outer edge creating a half circle on the cake stand top.
Repeat painting the half circles, overlapping them. When the paint is wet it is easy to wipe off of the surface with a slightly damp cloth. Perfect for those who may be a little careless when painting. (Anyone else like that? Or am I the only one who really just wings it and decides to just wait and see what it turns out like?)
Fill in the edge, giving the cake stand top a scalloped look.
If desired, use a different colored blue to paint the edge of the cake stand and to also outline the edge of the scallop. Allow to dry 24 hours before use.
Adding this paint took me about 15 minutes tops. I can’t help but think of how cute this little cake stand would be at a girls tea party, or Easter dinner. It would also be an easy one to create with your kids. At only $5 a cake stand this is a fun little project without a big price tag. Dollar spot for the win!
Happy creating friends,
