A few months ago I picked up this small metal greenhouse from a local junk market. It was green and rusty and I thought it would be a beautiful addition to our newly renovated front porch. It sat outside for a few months while the baby kittens continued to play with the opening in the screen. (Good thing those kittens were cute – they destroyed two topiaries as well this spring!) After going round and round with a few different ideas I decided to leave it out on the front porch and use it for planting succulents.
The rusty greenhouse before succulents.
To prepare the greenhouse for succulents I began by drilling a few holes into the tray for draining. The edges weren’t very tall so I decided to use an old metal tray that I had lying around for potting the succulents. Holes were drilled into the tray for more drainage, and then a layer of right potting soil, made for succulents, was added.
I selected small succulents that did not have deep roots so that they would fit in the shallow tray.
If you want to check out more of our stenciled cement front porch you can see that over here. And you don’t want to miss our pink front door!
Tell me, what would you put inside of this old greenhouse? I can see this beautiful succulent greenhouse sitting inside on top of a large white cupboard, something we currently don’t have in our home. So for the time being it will stay on the front porch. And would you keep it inside or out?
Wishing you the best, xo
