We have less than two weeks before our big fall market and my mind is full of junking and repurposing ideas. This little pew has been in my garage for a couple weeks while I went back and forth with painting ideas.
My favorite pew design is this one from an old door. I love the patches of white, as opposed to an all over color. So I set out to create a similar look with my pew.
After cleaning the wood I took white chalk paint and applied it with a dry brush technique. (This means I put very little on the brush, wiped it off on the side of the paint can, and then painted the wood with a “dry” brush.)
Once the surface was covered I went back over a few spots with another round of dry brushing to make thicker white patches.
The paint dried and then I took a few minutes to go over the surface with a sander. Blending in the edges of the darker patches with the lighter paint coating.
After the pew was wiped down a wax coating was applied to protect the surface.
Once upon a time this much distressing, and patchy paint look, would have made me crazy. It is definitely a look that has grown on me. But I know it will be a beautiful show stopper at the market on the 16th!
Wishing you the best friend, x
