I knew that summer vacation was coming, in fact we really were all ready for the break. The problem is I wasn’t actually ready. There was so much more for me to get done. I was going have all of my rooms organized and ready for the summer months. Days would be planned to give us enough time for fun while still getting all of our jobs done.
What really happened? I woke up too late on the first day of summer break, it made me grumpy, and then I was totally unprepared for my kids. It was the constant round of what do I do next? Ack! So I quick put together a Summer Responsibility chart, similar to what the kids used last year. We printed it off and wrote on it the things they needed to get done before any screen time (that should motivate them).
On our list you can find the following:
- eat breakfast
- make your bed
- get dressed and brush your teeth & hair
- practice piano
- 20 minutes of reading
- 20 minutes of playing outside
They seemed to actually like having the list, so I am interested to see how things run tomorrow morning around here. There are other jobs to do throughout the day (like animal chores and dishes) but if I put it all on this list they may just look at me like I’m crazy and ignore the whole thing! If you want to grab a copy of the chart to print off at home click the button below and I’ll email you a copy.
What would you add to the list for your own kids?
